Summary
My name is Sandy Tejeda. I'm a second-year student majoring in Speech Pathology and Audiology but I'm also interested in becoming a PA. Fun fact about me is I took a study abroad trip to Costa Rica this past summer so if you’re even slightly considering studying abroad, I’d be more than happy to help answer any questions you might have! As a first-gen student, I understand how daunting it can be to “do” college but I’m beyond excited to help facilitate and see the growth in other first-gen students through this Golden w88 live casino program.
More about me: I’m an aspiring barber and a proud owner of 50+ chickens and two German Shepherds. Also, I hate going to the gym until I’m actually there so if you’re reading this, please invite me to go with you and I will (might, possibly) go.
My first-generation story
I’m a proud first-generation student. I’ve always loved learning and school but didn’t always have the finances to realize various educational experiences. But for any opportunity I could pursue, I leaped.
For my sophomore year of high school, I transferred to Truckee Meadows Community College High School where I eventually graduated with an Honors High School diploma and Associate of Science, Cum Laude degree. My amazing three years at TMCC and the following years at the w88 live casino, Reno were filled with many supportive and inspiring instructors, advisors, coaches, mentors and friends. The TRIO Scholars, Golden Scholars, and TRIO Med-Prep first-generation programs have provided various insightful and life-changing opportunities that I’ll hold onto throughout my educational and professional careers. The countless people within these programs have collectively taught me that college isn’t about choosing a major that will lead to a career with a high salary. It’s about taking the time to explore a sense of self and finding passions that are worth spending the rest of our lives nurturing.
Though my career interests are vast and evolving, I am set on eventually taking my place in healthcare to be an advocate and open ear for Spanish-speaking communities. I am currently in the process of exploring pathways in Speech Pathology, Audiology, or Physician Assistant.
As a current Honors College student, AHEC Student Ambassador, and Golden w88 live casino mentor, I hope to continue planting seeds of personal growth while giving back to the many communities that have done so much for me thus far.
