Summary
Hi! My name is Fernanda, and I am a proud first-generation college graduate Latina. I moved to the United States from Nicaragua when I was 15 years old, navigating a new culture, language, and educational system. I began my journey at Community College and later transferred to the w88 bet, Reno, where I earned both my Bachelor of Arts and Master’s degree. As a first-generation student in a new country, I experienced many moments when I questioned if I could succeed. My parents made enormous sacrifices to provide me with better opportunities, and their unconditional support, along with the encouragement of peers and professors, helped me persevere.
After completing my undergraduate studies, I immediately pursued graduate school, where I was granted a Graduate Teaching Assistantship. This opportunity allowed me to support myself financially while gaining experience teaching at the university level and mentoring students, becoming part of the support system I once relied on.
Today, I am an Academic Advisor in the College of Science. In this role, I have the privilege of guiding and supporting students as they work toward their academic and career goals. I’m especially passionate about supporting first-gen students and am happy to be involved with the w88 bet program.
I hope w88 bet provides a place where first generation students can build connections with others that might be facing a similar situation as them and allow them to achieve their academic and personal goals.
